Bexhill Choral October Concert
BACH – CANTATA 196 SCARLATTI – DIXIT DOMINUS SCHUBERT – MASS IN G Bexhill Choral Society Sussex Concert Orchestra Kenneth Roberts conductor Bach’s Cantata 196 is a short and joyful piece celebrating the blessings of God. It is an early work, possibly written for a wedding, which highlights Bach’s skill at writing for voices and instruments. Alessandro Scarlatti’s rarely performed Dixit Dominus is a complex setting of Psalm 110 (109) showcasing his gift for harmony and vivid word-painting, with moments of drama and emotional intensity. Schubert’s small-scale Mass in G is a beautiful setting of the Mass, with tuneful melodies enriched by profound harmonies, which have made it popular with both performers and listeners. The Sussex Concert Orchestra will also play Tchaikovsky’s lyrical and soulful Andante Cantabile. Bexhill Choral Society is joined by soloists Caroline Charnock, Gary Marriott and Peter Grevatt, with accompaniment from the Sussex Concert Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Roberts. Tickets £17 on the door (£12 for "Friends" of BCS), £15 in advance from Second Spin, Sackville Road (cash only); from choir members; call 0333 666 3366 or from ticketsource online.
